Bodie Island | According to the local folklore, Bodie (pronounced "boddie") Island was named for the large number of bodies found onshore from shipwrecks. This 163-foot tower is patterned after the Cape Hatteras light.
Cape Hatteras | At 208 feet, this is the tallest lighthouse in the US. Visitors may climb to the top for a panoramic view of North Carolina's Outer Banks. Its first-order Fresnel lens was shipped to Pigeon Point in 1871.
Ocracoke Island | Dating from 1823, this brick-and-concrete tower is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in North Carolina, and the second-oldest in the US. It's fourth-order Frenel lens glows with a steady 8,000 candlepower light. |
